A Cheeky Request

It’s probably the most common thing people want highlighted in their photos. Not their face, or legs, or hair. Everybody wants a great shot of their butt.

It’s easy to see why. It’s a body part that is sensual but not vulgar, and it comes in a variety of attractive shapes and sizes. A visit to any beach in California finds women happily showing off one of their favorite assets, especially if they’ve put in a lot of work to get it the way they like.

There’s no shortage of ways to get a great butt photo, but the best shots aren’t simply close-ups; those are usually uninteresting and often tasteless. On the contrary, the key to a great shot highlighting the subject’s derrière is to deemphasize it. The pose doesn’t have to be subtle (and probably shouldn’t be), but these should be more going on in the image. For my editorial style, I want the nature of the shot to seem almost incidental, as though she didn’t even notice she was so exposed.

Enjoy this selection of some of my favorites from my shoots over the years.
